reflection

What is blogging? Blogging is sharing information and thoughts with other people around the globe. While we doing blogging, we have to know our target market and knowing our readers properly. We have to make the readers interested and comfortable to see our blog. Reep (2006) site that copyright is one of the important things in blogging, bloggers also have to use a good design to catch the reader’s attention. According to Tsan (2007), as a blogger we have to follow several conditions such as regularity which means we have to update our blog frequently to uphold the readers and to afford some new issues, the other condition is we have to aware about the growths in web technology and for the last condition is we have to confident and be ourselves when we write something in our blog. The other important point in blogging is the code ethic, it is very crucial to be aware of what issues that we write in blogs. Avoid using some insulting issues, unpleasant pictures and plagiarism because it can damage us. However, we have to write in a neutral side, because readers can come from different background of knowledge (Reep, 2006).

Obama's campaign

Barack Obama doing his campaign not only through print media and television, he also touches the World Wide Web and mobile technology for his campaign. It is because of the usage of mobile phone and internet in America is increasing in recent years. According to Peddycord (2008), Obama’s campaign group have used social networking and online marketing practices to organize their forces, get donations and broaden the word about the candidate and his message. In Obama’s website, there are many features to help his promote the campaign such as ‘call friends’, this features gives chance for people to take part of his campaign. The other features are notes, videos, photos, latest news and reminder for the Election Day. This website is much assisted, because all citizens can have the opportunity to participate and possibility to help designing a new conversation at the political level, something that has not been achievable for years. Social media also let people to go back to built communities on larger size (Maltoni, 2009). According to Walsh (2006), website design is to connect people to not just learn but also to become involved on the event. In the other hands, Obama also uses other technology to promote his campaign which is through Iphone mobile technology. He also has profile in Facebook and official videos in YouTube. With this era of technology, everyone can contribute their support via internet and it allows people in all groups of ages, gender and races.

Facebook makeover leaves some devotees fuming

The new facebook design layout has launched with more than 100 million users switched to the new design. The changes are inspired by the feedback from the users about the trend of people submerging the internet by allocation their thought, photos and video. Facebook new design also gives advantages such as easier to ‘pull and push’ the information in the form of bite-size content rather quickly. It also has a popular mini application such as “walls” and “graffiti”.

However, there are bunch of people who hates the new facebook design. Some users make a “who hates the new facebook format” group, and its contain many complains and they asked to bring back the ‘old’ format of facebook. According to Fulton (2009), the new facebook format is non user-friendly and total confusing. It is because of the difficulty to see the differences between a note and wall posting, they both emerging in a same spot. In the other hands, facebook costumer recognizes about the complaining and they believe that usres will feel the new design is useful when they becoming familiar with the new design and features.

According to Grunwald (2009), a good web design should have a clear purpose, knowing the intended audience, have a structured site, easy to navigate and keep the site current. Kyrnin also have the same opinion about a good web design, a good layout has to be efficient as must be contained some characteristic such as unity, balance, proportion, emphasis, and sequence. In my opinion about this facebook issue, the change that made is not really ‘non user-friendly’, it’s good for improving the utility of the facebook itself. Even though, many users still not accepted the new format of facebook.

the power of photograph

Frederic Hanrez is the owner of The War Photo Limited Gallery which specialized to show some pictures from Croatian war in Dubrovnik city in the early 1990s. Wade Goddard is the photojournalist, he was work as photojournalist for about 10 years. The design of this gallery is mainly to memories of war that happened in Dubrovnik and to get the visual images from the war although now Dubrovnik was slowly restored and became a major city of tourist attraction (The Media Report, 2007). Therefore, most local rather forget about the war, but the photographic gallery that takes place in the city’s centre is trying to keep the memories alive and make them more aware about this war and the conflict behind it. The gallery is contributed exclusively to war photography.

If the viewer doesn’t have any background information about a picture then they can only pull from their existing knowledge, a hypothetical conclusion about what the image is trying to portray” (Julsm, 2007). Besides, in my opinion, I think that although people doesn’t have any background about the picture about the war that happened in Dubrovnik, they can easily understand the meaning behind the photograph, because it’s shows what was really happened during the war. Kress & Leeuwen (1996) site that images give a greater proportion than written text. It is because images can spontaneously represent the meaning while text is harder to illustrate the meaning because we have to use our thought to read and understand the text. Photograph is the most important aspect to represent the real situation (Walsh, 2006.p.32).

Concerning about the variety of picture, I think that when people look on the photos that displayed in this gallery can easily get the meaning using their own perspective because genres are ways of sense related with a social point and a social occasion ( Schirato and Yell, 1996)

Indonesian weekly apologizes over last Supper Suharto cover

Tempo Newspaper has apologized to all Christians around the world, mainly all Christians in Indonesia regarding the picture that used on the cover page. That picture was stand for Indonesian former president, Suharto and his children. The picture was imitate the composition of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper picture which illustrated Jesus with his three daughters and sons instead of apostles, it cause complaints from Christians. The reason is because of Suharto was known as the most powerful and the longest president ever in Indonesia, he was occupy as a president for more than three decades until 1998. Even though Suharto led and brought Indonesia to immovability economic, he was being blamed of a corruption and the right abuse to the citizens. Then, Tempo newspaper published a large headline had a good mind to apologized, the heading was "Tempo Magazine Apologizes" followed by the subheading "We had no intention of hurting Christians”.

Kress & van Leeuwen (1998) site that image is part of multimodal text, it is because image is the representation of something which also can convey messages without giving text on the picture. Besides, arrangement and visual illustration contribute to meaning. According to Krees& Leeuwen (1996), There are third element that set up by the image: the composition of the whole, the way in which the representational and interactive elements are made to related to each other, the way are integrated into meaningful whole. Regarding the image in the Tempo’s cover page, readers can have their own perspective. Based on Christian religion, they believe that last supper is blessed painting, it illustrate the last mealtime Jesus shared with his Twelve Apostles before he die, it also surrounded by many significant theories (all about Jesus Christ.org , 2009). In the other hands, other people which non-Christian think that it’s only a famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting. So, I can conclude that every person have their own point of view about that controversial picture. Because, it is depends on the person experience, knowledge and thought.

According to Thomson (2004), there are 5 types of blogs, which are personal, news, campaign, tech and organizational blog. Personal blogs are a method of communicating with friends and strangers. Blog phenomenon

Actually, blogs exist for years. These days, blogs went from nothing to something big in just only one seconds and no one can figure it out but it seems like blogs has offer something that can make people addicted. Web blog is mainly an online journal or we can call it an online diary. Some people using blog only for fun while others lean to do some business in blog. According to Rowse(2005), Blogs generally written by one person and usually update frequently. ABC News stated that bloggers are the “People of the Year”. Nowadays, blogs having a power on mainstream media, because people are being read and write blogs and some blogs measured as educational site and it’s simple to read. We don’t have to make an account only to read some information written in other people blogs. That is why blogs become so phenomenal in this age. According to a study of blogging research by Pew Internet & American Life Project, the development of internet users who read blogs increase up to 58% in 2004. On the other hand, according to the information, the interest for blogging is still restricted to a minority of Internet users which 62% of online Americans reported that they do not know what the meaning of ‘blog’ itself is.

what is a good document

WHAT IS A GOOD DOCUMENT
According to Diana Reep (2006, p.135), a good document has to create a balance proportion to attract the attention of the readers. A good document has to use a good structure of writing. With a good structure of writing, the readers can easily understand the information. Good writing always starts with a clear goal, so that the readers can understand the goal as well. (Kiefer, 1997-2009)

Writers have to choose the proper language to express the information and write about the useful topics, the other important point of a good writing are writers have to write about the interesting and important topics, so that the readers can read straight to the point. There are some aspects that we need to know before writing (Steve Peha, 2002) which are the ideas, the organization of the information, word choice, and sentence.

As a communication students, learn to write is the most important aspect. Because, nowadays people are tend to have a skill to write, especially communication people. Without a good writing, communication students will not be able to apply their lesson when their work.

In this article, I would like to compare my group presentation with my individual presentation. The purpose is to provide the perceptive of a good document. My group presentation has a balance and proportion. In the other hands, my group are explaining with focusing on the text rather than giving images. Hence, in my individual presentation, I used an image to give the audience example of multimodal text (slide no 1). Selzer (1989, p.44-47) cite that writers can give the explanation and give the arguments after the explanation to give the evidence first. Therefore, in my individual presentation, I give my viewpoint to support my presentation (slide no 2)
